Student Intern Info and Application
Horizons helps prepare our students for successful employment and future careers.
- Each summer, we offer 5-week internships - both volunteer and paid positions - to 9th-12th graders who have participated in our program one or more years.
- You must volunteer at least 2 summers before being considered for a paid position.
- We hire 2-3 paid Student Interns at each site and have more than 30 volunteer positions! Paid interns at our Virginia Beach and Portsmouth sites are in charge of serving meals to students and cleaning up afterwards. They also assist the Site Director and Site Assistant, conduct donor tours, and assist with a variety of important tasks.
- Paid interns must also be fully onboarded as staff, which includes background checks, training, and completing a full human resources packet. Horizons staff will assist you in this process, but it must be completed in a timely manner.
- Whether you are paid or volunteer, you will have an amazing summer and leave with fun, rewarding experiences you will always remember!

Before you begin gather your reference information and think about how you will answer some of the questions:
- References - provide 2 names and contact information for adults prepared to serve as references - such as a teacher, church member, employer, coach, or other extra-curricular representative, etc., (but not be a family member). For each, provide their email addresses and/or a phone number so that we can contact them.
- You will be asked how you will contribute to Horizons Mission and to highlight the strengths and skills you will bring to the position. Good luck!
