2013 Horizons Summer Program Dates
Tuesday, June 25th – Friday, August 2nd
The first day of the 2013 summer program is just around the corner! We are looking forward to welcoming Horizons students at our three program sites: Horizons Chesapeake Bay Academy, Horizons Norfolk Collegiate School, and Horizons Portsmouth Catholic Regional School.
The program will run daily, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm. Each Site maintains a different schedule, but every student will have breakfast, lunch and academic classroom instruction in reading, math, STEM daily. As part of the daily academic curriculum each student is tested for reading and math skills at the beginning and end of the program term. Students will have the opportunity to work with a Reading Specialist at their site to further improve their skills in a one-on-one environment in addition to their classroom environment.
Students will also receive swimming instruction three days a week. The students love the swimming portion of their week and always rank it as a favorite activity! Swimming is a critical component of the Horizons summer experience as it teaches a life-saving skill many would not have another opportunity to learn. This builds confidence which, in turn, translates to confidence in the classroom. Students also received arts education several times a week in the forms of music, visual arts, and performing arts. While many public schools are cutting the arts due to budget constraints, Horizons maintains that this is a critical enrichment educational opportunity for young learners and we are proud to have on our staff specialists in these subject matters!
