Donor Spotlight: First Settlers Region Porsche Club of America

Posted February 14, 2020

We love our donors! This month, we are excited to showcase our donor and partner, the First Settlers Region, Porsche Club of America.  Since 2015, The First Settlers Region Porsche Club and members have supported our life transforming summer program with generous donations they raise and personally give.

“The First Settlers Region Porsche Club members work hard all year raising money, while celebrating their car-love.  We are so grateful that Horizons students have more opportunities because of their generosity (and we love the cars, too!)” stated Executive Director, Dick Trowbridge.

During summer 2015, Porsche Club members came out to visit our Portsmouth program. Visitors met students while visiting classrooms and saw first-hand the positive impact Horizons is making in the lives of local kids. The inspiring visit concluded with a fun opportunity for our students to check-out our visitors’ awesome Porsches!

Josie Grandfield, First Settlers Region Porsche Club’s charity coordinator, shared “Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces while they made art projects, blew up volcanoes in the front yard and lined up to head off to swim lessons for the day was a wonderful experience for our club. Thank you for inviting us.”

The Air & Auto Classic Charity Car Show is a local community event the First Settlers Region, Porsche Club has hosted to raise thousands of dollars to give back to charitable organizations.  The Air & Auto Classic gives participants an opportunity to show off their pride and joy, check out the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, and bring folks together to contribute to inspiring organizations doing important charity work in our community. Horizons Hampton Roads is one of the proud beneficiaries of this awesome event.

Last November, the Porsche Club kindly donated over $5,000 raised at the 2019 Air & Auto Classic.  Porsche Club charity coordinator, Josie Grandfield and show coordinator, George Michaels presented the generous donation check to Dick Trowbridge at their annual “Turkeys in the Trunk” event with Checkered Flag, Porsche General Manager, Ed Klima.

The First Settlers Region Porsche Club of America is a talented group of people with tremendous diverstiy united by the love of Porsche automobiles.  Porsche Club of America’s main mission is to heighten the Porsche owning and driving experience.
